ABOUT US

Parents need time
to
parent.

We advocate for the recognition of unpaid care work and  the choice for

parents to perform this work if they choose.

OUR POSITION

We believe improving early learning starts with acknowledging the value of unpaid labour. Recognising the critical, irreplaceable role of parents in their children's lives.

We believe in

01

Supporting parents to care for their children

Better support for parents in the early years will improve the wellbeing of families and benefit society and the economy at large.

03

Improving gender equality

Gender equality is best achieved through both parents equally engaging in caregiving - not equally disengaging from it.

02

Acknowledging unpaid labour

Unpaid care work has real value. Recognising this is fundamental to any serious conversation about early childhood and family policy.

04

Improving formal care conditions

Helping parents provide care in the early years reduces pressure on childcare centres, improving conditions for educators and children alike.

05

Challenging the "expand-at-all-costs" agenda

The current agenda - driven by government, the childcare industry, and the media - encourages full-time paid work for all parents, and formal external care for all children from six months.

In a sector that is largely for-profit and affected by systemic quality issues, it is irresponsible to tell parents that daycare centres represent "the best start" for all children aged 0–5.
