Parents need time
to parent.

We advocate for the recognition of unpaid care work and
the choice for parents to perform this work if they choose.
We believe in
Supporting parents to care for their children
Better support for parents to care for their own children, particularly in the early years, will improve the wellbeing of children and families and ultimately benefit society and the economy at large.
Acknowledging unpaid labour
Improving early learning starts with acknowledging the value of unpaid labour and recognising the critical role of parents in their children’s lives.
Improving gender equality
Gender equality is best achieved through both parents equally engaging in caregiving roles rather than equally disengaging, which is what the current workforce participation model of gender equality encourages.
Improving conditions of formal care
Helping parents provide care in the early years will reduce pressure and stress on childcare centres, therefore improving conditions for educators and the overall quality of care for children both in and out of formal care.
Challenging the "expand-at-all costs" agenda
The current, "expand-at-all-costs" care agenda driven by governments, the childcare industry and the media is deeply concerning to us. It encourages a model in which all parents engage in full-time paid work, and all children are in formal, external care from six months of age onwards.
With a sector that is largely 'for-profit' and affected by systemic quality issues, together with an uncertain evidence base, it is irresponsible of these bodies to repeatedly tell parents that daycare centres represent "the best start" for all children
aged 0-5.
